About Me

I’m Dustin. I’m a husband, dad, and active-duty Air Force member who has spent more than a decade working in aircraft maintenance. The military has shaped almost my entire adult life. It has taken me around the world, introduced me to people from every kind of background, and given me opportunities and responsibilities I never would have imagined when I first joined. It has also taught me a lot about leadership, discipline, consistency, and showing up when things are difficult. Like a lot of people, though, I got pretty good at making sure everything else was taken care of before worrying about myself.
Why I’m Doing This Now

In my 30s, I started thinking more seriously about what I wanted my health to look like ten, twenty, and thirty years from now. I did not have some dramatic transformation in mind. I simply wanted to feel better, improve my endurance, become more consistent, and start taking better care of myself.
That eventually led me to a simple jog and walk program. From there, I started paying attention to heart rate, recovery, sleep, nutrition, strength, and the dozens of small choices that affect how I feel and perform.
The more I learned, the more I wanted to document it. Not because I have all the answers, but because I definitely do not.
Life Outside Training

Running and fitness are only pieces of my life. Most of my time revolves around my family, my Air Force career, traveling whenever we get the opportunity, and life at home with our two cats.
I also enjoy food, vacations, late nights, lazy days, and all the other things that make real life different from a perfectly planned training schedule. I have no interest in pretending those things disappear just because I want to become healthier.
Part of this project is figuring out how fitness fits into the life I already have.
What You’ll Find Here
The Middle Miles is where I document the process as it actually happens. Training, walking, running, recovery, nutrition, sleep, supplements, travel, setbacks, data, and whatever I happen to be learning at the time.
Some weeks will probably look great. Others will not.
That is the point.
I am not an elite runner, coach, dietitian, or medical professional. I am simply documenting my own experience, the decisions I make, the results I see, and what I learn along the way.
This is not a transformation story with an ending already written. I’m still in the middle of it.
